Mitigation is an important facet of Cedar County Emergency Management. By removing factors that might contribute to a future disaster, we lessen the impact of an event on our community. In 2018, Cedar County embarked on an ambitious buyout project, which had the ultimate effect of removing structures in the West Rochester area. By removing the homes and cabins in this area, we lessen the financial and human impact of future flooding in this area. The gallery below contains photos of the 2018 demolition process.
