On 8/10/2020 a fast moving, severe thunderstorm (derecho) moved through Iowa and impacted Cedar County. Wind gusts over 70 mph were recorded in many locations, with peak wind gusts in excess of 100 mph. Severe winds and heavy rain impacted the whole county, and the resulting damage is extensive, with the primary areas affected being in the northern two-thirds of the county. This derecho has left Cedar County in a state of disaster, with extensive tree damage causing power outages, structure damage, blocked roadways, etc. occurring in a widespread area.
